The Rivers State Ministry of Sports has announced plans to upgrade key sports facilities across the state, with significant renovations scheduled for the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Yakubu Gowon Stadium, and Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex, among others.
Rivers State Sports Commissioner Barrister Christopher Green confirmed these plans, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing world-class facilities for sports development. Built in 2015, the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium is a state of the art facility featuring a hockey pitch, shooting range, aquatic centre, and multiple courts for basketball, tennis, and handball. The 38,000 seat stadium, named after Rivers State’s former footballer Chief Adokiye Amiesimaka, also boasts 25 emergency exits and natural grass pitches.
